I hope everyone had a relaxing (and fattening) Thanksgiving. Tasha and I took it easy in Denver. Instead of doing the traditional feast, we made a Thanksgiving-inspired bruschetta (sour dough bread with cranberry sauce, feta, walnuts and caramelized onions). It was delicious and took much less time to prepare than a turkey.
November was National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and I decided to participate this year. The idea is to finish a full-length novel in 30 days, which is a bit more than a new father can do… but I was able to finish two drafts of a new Young Adult madcap space adventure. Let me know if you like the Hitchhiker’s Guide by Douglas Adams because my book is in a similar vein and I’ll be looking for some beta readers this December. I also recorded my voice reading “Butterflies Don’t Chew Bubblegum” for a free eBook android app we’re developing — more on that next month!
This month’s poem is inspired by Jack Prelutsky, one of my favorite children’s poets:
THE COFFEE KIOSK
I walked into a small kiosk
to have a cup of brew.
There were so many choices:
whatever will I do?
I looked up at the menu,
surprised at what I found.
The options were so many
To no choice was I bound!
There was…
Cherry Cola Chicken Bean,
Brussel Sprouts with Rabbit Spleen,
Monkey Mocha Melon Mix,
Tapioca Tea-leaf Twix,
Juicy Jello Java Jam,
Honey Hot-Dog Hashbrown Ham,
Paprika Peanut Pie,
Wonton Waffle on the fly.
After sizing up the menu
I ordered my first round.
“Yuck this coffee tastes like mud!”
“Well sir, it’s fresh ground.”
Cheers,
-Steve and Tasha
